Animal Crossing players are calling for the game’s refrigerators to be used as storage for food and ingredients, instead of serving as wardrobes.
Players of Animal Crossing: New Horizons are calling for Nintendo to change the function of refrigerators to allow users to store their ingredients and food instead of clothes. Food has been a big focus of the recent Animal Crossing update, which introduced cooking and farming along with a host of delicious-looking recipes.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons fans have been exploring the November 2.0 update, which added a host of new features, characters, and NPCs. The game was a big hit when it launched in 2020, but a lack of gameplay additions caused many to stray from the release once the core story had been completed. With the latest game update, players can not only enjoy cooking, but can also explore mystery boat tours, toy with the game’s new luck mechanics, and have a fresh cup of coffee with Brewster and friends at the Animal Crossing Roost cafe.
With the addition of cooking, Animal Crossing players have been hard at work making the game’s wide range of dishes, but fans want to see the in-game refrigerators repurposed for food storage. Since the game released, refrigerators have served as wardrobes, giving players the chance to change up their look, but with many ingredients now sitting in fans’ inventories, Redditors want to see fridges that store food. User floon has seen over 3,000 upvotes on Reddit after sharing their desire for food refrigerators, writing:
“Refrigerators provide a clothing-only view of your storage. This has always been silly. They should provide a food-and-cooking-ingredient-only view of your storage now. I’ve had a bunch of QoL wishes for the game for the past 18 months, but this is my new #1.”
The view is shared by many Animal Crossing players, with Chef_Groovy adding: “At the very least they should act like the new storage sheds. Ideally, with a filter for only cooked food and cooking ingredients.“

The Nintendo hit recently released a patch for the 2.0 update, fixing various bugs the new Animal Crossing content had introduced, but it’s not clear just what future ACNH updates may look like. Nintendo has confirmed that the 2.0 release is the last substantial game update for Animal Crossing: New Horizons, though it seems likely that smaller quality-of-life improvements may continue along with the game’s seasonal events and occasional new item drops.
Animal Crossing now has over 100 cooking recipes for fans to discover and try out, which means lots of ingredients will be needed for those who want to try their hand at the whole menu. Flour, tomatoes, carrots, potatoes, and more, are likely to be taking up a lot of room in players’ storage, and for roleplayers, being able to store their ingredients in a fridge would be a sizeable improvement. Whether or not Animal Crossing‘s refrigerators will be updated in the future remains to be seen, but hopefully Nintendo will listen to the calls of the ACNH community.
