I have a new super versatile, incredibly easy, and of course, absolutely delicious way to use up all that extra fruit in your fridge or on your counter. Did I mention they’re just as fun to make as they are to eat?!

That’s right, these rainbow fruit skewers just require a bit of chopping and threading to put them together, and the result is the perfect snack or treat that kiddos (and adults) will LOVE. In fact, these cute fruit skewers are such a great activity to do with kids during the summer — especially ones learning their colors!

You know I had to do them up with a delicious drizzle of chocolate and sprinkle of flakey sea salt. It turns the skewers into a satisfying dessert that’s guaranteed to satisfy that sweet tooth craving. I included even more ideas for dips, too, so be sure to let me know how you serve them!

What are fruit skewers?

Just like traditional food skewers or kabobs, fruit skewers are simply whole or cubed rainbow fruits threaded onto a skewer! They’re super versatile and come together in minutes, so I love making them as easy snacks or treats.

Everything you’ll need to make fruit skewers

I love making these fresh fruit kabobs as an easy snack or healthy treat during the week. You’ll need just 5 simple ingredients:

What fruits work best?

The best part about making rainbow fruit skewers is that you can use pretty much any colorful fruits you’d like! Feel free to mix and match:

  • For the strawberries: red apples, raspberries, cubed watermelon, and red grapes
  • For the pineapple & orange: mango, cantaloupe, and peach chunks
  • For the kiwi: green grapes and honeydew melon
  • For extra blue or purple: blackberries, blueberries, or purple grapes

How to make rainbow fruit skewers

  1. Thread the fruit. Carefully arrange each fruit onto your wooden skewers in rainbow order. Place them on a large baking sheet lined with parchment paper or wax paper.
  2. Melt the chocolate. Break up your chocolate bar and melt the chunks in a microwave safe bowl until fully melted.
  3. Top your skewers. Drizzle the fruit skewers with the melted chocolate, and sprinkle on some fancy sea salt if you like.
  4. Freeze & enjoy. Lastly, freeze the fruit skewers with chocolate for 5 minutes until the chocolate hardens. Then enjoy!

Easy & delicious fruit skewers made with 5 different types of fresh fruit and a drizzle of dark chocolate for an extra treat. These fun rainbow fruit skewers are the perfect healthy snack or dessert and are great for kids!

  • 6
    strawberries, hulled
  • 1
orange, peeled, segmented and cut in half
  • ½
of a ripe pineapple, peeled, cored and cut into 1-inch chunks (about 1 ½ cups pineapple chunks)
  • 1
    banana, cut into 1-inch sliced
  • 2
kiwi fruit, peeled and cut into 1-inch chunks
  • 1
bar of semi-sweet or dark chocolate, vegan or dairy free if desired
  • Optional: flaky sea salt

  1. Arrange fruit on wooden skewers. I like adding them in rainbow order: strawberry, orange, pineapple, banana, kiwi. Place the skewers on a large plate or baking pan lined with parchment paper or wax paper.

  2. Break up the dark chocolate bar into pieces and add it to a microwave safe bowl. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until the chocolate is melted.

  3. Drizzle the melted chocolate over the fruit kabobs and sprinkle with flaky sea salt, if using.

  4. Place the plate of kabobs in the freezer for 5 minutes or until the chocolate hardens. Enjoy!

Fruit kabobs will stay fresh for about 1 day in the fridge.

If you don’t want to serve them with dark chocolate, I recommend serving them with vanilla yogurt for dipping or just enjoying as is! See the full post for even more fun dipping options.
